Just a 20 minute journey from Heraklion airport I arrived at Amirandes and was greeted with a warm welcome from Maria, Front of House, and Georgios, the Assistant General Manager.
Wow! An amazing feeling to wake up to the sound of the ocean and I felt like a child at Christmas when I opened my double doors to see my own private pool, private terrace along with sun loungers and just steps away from the beach – I was staying in a two-bedroom beach villa.
Limelight Hint: When booking a villa it entitles you access to the VIP beach and your own private cabana where you’re served food and drink. The beach may be small but well worth visiting for the great service and relaxing afternoon in the sun.
Other than villas, the resort offers suites and bungalows.
Room with a view: One Bedroom Grand Suite
Stay in the room with the WOW factor! With views overlooking the sea and the glass balcony doors opening completely to transform the suite, this is the perfect stay for a special occasion or impressing someone special.
Best for fitness lovers: Luxury Junior Suite
Equipped with a gym and a private pool, the Luxury Junior Suite is perfect for a couple who like the balance of fitness and relaxation. The suite has an open plan living room and well equipped gym complete with a TV along with a sliding bed panel which can be opened to offer sea views whilst exercising.
Best for a large family: Grand Royal Residence
A beachfront villa consisting of two areas separated by a private courtyard sleeping 8 people and the luxury of 2 living rooms, 2 swimming pools, kitchen, sauna, jacuzzi, massage bed and pool/snooker table (catering and spa treatments can be available upon request)
This is the ultimate luxury accommodation for a group looking for complete privacy.
There are a variety of options for places to eat inside Amirandes, with 8 restaurants and different styles of food in each there’s something for all tastebuds. From fine dining in Lago Di Candia (I’d recommend the chocolate soup – image below) Asian cuisine in Blue Monkey, buffet in the Amirandes main restaurant and traditional Greek food in Xasteria.
When you’re not indulging in the amazing food on offer, why not head to the Olympic pool to swim the calories off (even though a pool bar and brasserie are close by to wet your appetite)
… or treat yourself to a spa treatment in Elixir Alchemy Spa.
I was very lucky enough to enjoy a 25 minute ‘Relax Massage’ and would definitely recommend the treatment to others!
If you’d prefer to keep active during your stay, the spa has a gym with the latest Cardio-fitness equipment; morning gymnastics and outdoor activities including tennis, football and beach volleyball. Offsite activities are also available which includes Water City (Crete’s largest water park), horse-riding and Gouves Train Ride (unique sight-seeing tour)
(Speak to your Limelight travel agent if any of these are of interest or you would like more information)
Amirandes doesn’t just offer activities to keep the adults busy but also the children. With a children’s club on site, Grecoland, is built entirely with kids in mind.
GrecoKids: for 3-6 year olds to enjoy arts & crafts, water activities, theme events, treasure hunts and environmental days
GrecoJuniors: to keep 7-12 year olds active with Discovery Programmes, Golf Academy and discos every evening in the Amirandes theatre.
Programmes and activities are also available for 0-3 and 13+
If you’re looking for something outside of the hotel, whatever your group type, I would recommend visiting The Palace of Knossos to learn more about some of the history of the city and traditional Greek myths; tours and transport can be organised by the hotel but may need to be booked in advance. (Let your Limelight Travel Agent know if this is something you would be interested in and more information can be provided). Outside of learning about the history, the Heraklion City Centre was filled with markets, bars, Greek restaurants (I’d recommend 50/50 for a delicious traditional Greek lunch) the Church of Ayios Titos and the Heraklion Archaelogical Museum (a great place to carry on your day of education)
If you’re looking for a relaxing break with friends, a small family or for a romantic break, visit Crete the Limelight way; choose Amirandes.
