Old World Glamour & Contemporary Chic at Capri Palace

December 5th 2014
  • Last August, we were fortunate enough to follow in the footsteps of old Hollywood and take a trip to the gorgeous Isle of Capri. We flew into Naples and then took a boat to this beautiful Mediterranean island which is a stones throw from the rugged coastline of the Amalfi Coast.

Arriving into the Port of Marina Grande it feels like not much has changed since Liz Taylor, Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn visited. In fact, more recently the island has seen the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Gwyenth Paltrow which suggests the island has as much to offer today as it did all those years ago.

We stayed at our partner hotel, the iconic Capri Palace, which in fact, was where Beyonce and Jay Z stayed last year.  On arriving at the busy port we met our driver who took us up the winding road to Anacapri, a quaint little village where  the hotel is located along narrow, windy roads which offered fantastic views of the island as we got higher and higher.

The hotel is open from April to October and features ‘L’Olivo’ restaurant which has 2 Michelin stars, a weird and wonderful art collection led by the owner of the resort, Europe’s only Michelin Starred Beach Club, ‘Il Riccio’ and a Medical Spa where the likes of Mariah Carey have been treated.

We experienced their signature treatment called Leg School which was formulated and patented by Prof. Francesco Canonaco who is based at the hotel. In short, after having our legs wrapped in a sort of tingly menthol mud, we washed off then walked through 2 lanes of water, one warm and pleasant, the other absolutely freezing! Afterwards, we both felt energised and amazing. You can also couple these treatments with healthy living incorporating a Mediterranean diet if you are trying to achieve the perfect bikini body!

Other things to do, if you are not hanging out by the pool or at the beach club watching the various super yachts coming in is visit the famous Blue Grotto. Accessed on little white boats through a smallish hole you enter into the bluest waters you have ever seen!

You can also take a chairlift situated next to the hotel to the top of the Isle of Capri where you see the most amazing views.

All in all you can expect VIP treatment, Italian charm and AMAZING food in a beautiful setting.  If it’s good enough for Leonardo Di Caprio…it’s definitely good enough for us.

    Happy travelling

    Nadine 🙂
